NDACS 8046Channel Analogue Output Card |
General DescriptionThe NDACS8046 card is a general purpose analogue output card containing 8 x 12 bit ADC Analogue output channels. The card is designed for control applications and can output signals over a standard range of 0-10V as well as driving 0 - 20, 4 - 20 and 4-20mA current loops. Anlogue Outputs with Read-backThe analogue output channels utilise 12 bit ADC conversion offering up to 65000 different output levels in a range of 0 - 10V DC. Each output channels utilises the same read back system as used on other 8000 series cards in order that a check can be made to ensure that an output has been changed after the instruction to change the level has been made. Analogue Channel ProtectionAll of the analogue output signals are 50 mA fuse and zener diode protected to prevent accidental damage. Should the analogue outputs be accidentally connected to excessive analogue input signals or a short circuit condition occurs then the fuse will fail and the 8045 board will protected. Status MessagesThe control processor within the card reads each value set by the analogue output channels and sets a register to indicate the status of the conversion process. Each time a level is set to an output port its analogue level is assigned to a channel status register. This register level is monitored to ensure that out of value levels cannot be assigned. Should an over range condition be detected then this operation is used to indicate that an output channel has failed. An out of range level condition sets a unique bit within the channel status register which can be interogated by most SCADA systems and used to form the alarm/status messaging system. Hot Swop OperationsThe 8046 module utilises a hot swop method for systems maintenance. The cards can be simply removed and a replaced while the full system is still in operation without fear of causing any physical damage or stopping the data acquisition or control operations. |

Systems LatencyWhen in use with the 8100 processor card and suitable control software on a data server the 8046 card can make an output level change in under 10 microSec no matter how many input channels are in use |
